Baron & Baroness Letter - March 2020

Hail and well met on the road to war!

It is our sincere hope that everyone who can go to war has a wonderful time doing so. If you have any kind of off site housing, please remember to register for Camp Dark-An-Flung so we can have your space!

If you travel to war, please stop in at the Knowne World Party and consider donating a part of your time to help out. There are tons of events which need your help - but at the same time, remember that this is your event, too. If you need this time to relax and come back refreshed, absolutely take that time.

There is always a fine balance between working and playing in the SCA, especially given how we look at service. There is the urge to always be working, but that is not sustainable. Be willing to take an event or two, or even a year, off to just play. Be willing to say no - and be willing to accept if someone says they're taking some time to just play.

When the SCA becomes a second job, we lose people. Work must be part of the play, either because we enjoy the working or because we're balancing the two. There is no one right answer and we must each find that balance for ourselves.

See you at war - where we'll be doing very little besides playing (ok ok and helping out at the party)!

Event Position: Reservations Steward 

We are seeking someone to help with Reservations for an event bid for Village Faire happening this fall (2020). The theme will be "The Faire at Shakespeare's Hamlet"

Officer Position: Deputy Marshal
We are looking for a Deputy Marshal for the barony.
Term: 2 years

Requirements:

• Heavy weapons marshal authorized, ACM in the Marshal Authorizations section.
• Your authorization card is current.
• Are a paid member of the SCA.

Responsibilities:

• Attending the Darkwater fighter practices Wednesday and Sunday
• Ensuring the safety of all participating at practice
• Ensuring necessary paperwork is filled out for all participants
• Reporting quarterly updates to the Barony Marshal

Officer Position: High Table Set Up Steward
The posting is open immediately.
Term: 2 years

Requirements:

• Interest in the pomp and decorations for High Table at Feasts.
• (SCA membership advisable but not required.)

Responsibilities:

• Maintain an inventory of items used for setting the High Table at events, to be reported to the Exchequer on a yearly basis.
• Maintain the items, including but not limited to dishes, tablecloths and decorations, if any, in good condition, including arranging for cleaning, repairs and replacements.
• Work with the Quartermaster to monitor that items are stored properly.
• Work with the Quartermaster to make items as accessible as possible to the Baron, Baroness, Event Stewards, & Hall Stewards, for events, as requested
• On the Day of the Event, work with the Hall Steward:
• Before the Feast, set up the High Table.
• After the Feast, remove, clean and maintain all the items.

Officer Position: Darkwater Ranger
We are looking for a Deputy Ranger for the Barony.
Term: 2 years

Requirements:

• Must be an authorized archery marshal.
• Must be a current member in good standing.

Responsibilities:

• Tracking and maintaining all Baronial archery equipment including bows / arrows, target stands and butts.
• Making sure equipment is present and available at both practices and events.
• Run or co-ordinate the running of the range at all three Baronial events. (Trident Tourney, Clans, Village Faire)

Chatelaine Letter - March 2020

Good day Darkwater,

Just some data on things happening in the newcomer department. We have had several new members start to join us regularly at meetings. So welcome to the newcomers. I have done a short series of newcomer classes which will resume in April as I will be unavailable for 2 meetings in March due to mundane life.

As you will have seen on Darkwater populace group on Facebook, there is a Demo called Spring Fling at the Avian Reconditioning Center in Apopka March 28, 2020 from 8am-5pm (the demo is 10am-3pm) but we'll need help setting up and cleaning up. Please message me if you are interested in helping with this demo. At this demo there will be no Armoured Heavy combat as it will upset the birds and they will be out and present.

Seneschal Letter - March 2020

Greetings to our wonderful Barony. 

All is moving well in our group. I am still looking for ideas for the wrap for our trailer. I am going to extend it by a month to see what we can get. Also, we are looking for bids for Village Fair in September. If you are interested in working on an event please let us know. 

The polling is closed for Baron and Baroness. I have sent the letters I received on to the Kingdom Seneschal and am waiting to hear back on what our next steps are. Polling should be at Clans. 

And finally, I received an email from a lady looking for people willing to rent out their garb to a High School show of the Sword and the Stone. That is all the information I have on it.
