Position: Deputy Marshal
We are looking for a Deputy Marshal for the barony.
Term: 2 years

Requirements:

• Heavy weapons marshal authorized, ACM in the Marshal Authorizations section.
• Your authorization card is current.
• Are a paid member of the SCA.

Responsibilities:

• Attending the Darkwater fighter practices Wednesday and Sunday
• Ensuring the safety of all participating at practice
• Ensuring necessary paperwork is filled out for all participants
• Reporting quarterly updates to the Barony Marshal

Position:  High Table Set Up Steward of Barony of Darkwater
The posting is open immediately.
Term: 2 years

Requirements: 

• Interest in the pomp and decorations for High Table at Feasts.
• (SCA membership advisable but not required.)

Responsibilities:

• Maintain an inventory of items used for setting the High Table at events, to be reported to the Exchequer on a yearly basis.
• Maintain the items, including but not limited to dishes, tablecloths and decorations, if any, in good condition, including arranging for cleaning, repairs and replacements.
• Work with the Quartermaster to monitor that items are stored properly.
• Work with the Quartermaster to make items as accessible as possible to the Baron, Baroness, Event Stewards, & Hall Stewards, for events, as requested
• On the Day of the Event, work with the Hall Steward:
• Before the Feast, set up the High Table.
• After the Feast, remove, clean and maintain all the items.

Position: Darkwater Ranger

We are looking for a Deputy Ranger for the Barony.

Term:  2 years

Requirements:

• Must be an authorized archery marshal.
• Must be a current member in good standing.

Responsibilities:

• Tracking and maintaining all Baronial archery equipment including bows / arrows, target stands and butts.
• Making sure equipment is present and available at both practices and events.
• Run or co-ordinate the running of the range at all three Baronial events. (Trident Tourney, Clans, Village Faire)

Baron & Baroness Letter - February 2020

Greetings and well met unto the Barony of Darkwater!

War calls!

As Gulf Wars fast approaches, please remember that there are a number of things you can do to help your Barony while at war! First, please put "Barony of Darkwater" as your home group for any volunteer hours for the post war check. If you're not camping, please consider registering land for Dark-an-flung Camp to grant more land space. And finally, it is our turn to host the Knowne World Party, so any help you can offer for set up, clean up, or service during is credit to our Kingdom.

If you're a fighter, remember that the deadline for new auth paperwork to go to Mistress Brenna is Friday Feb 14th. Make sure you have your blue card, your auth card, and any appropriate paperwork with you before you leave home. Not to mention any belts, regalia, etc (Says the Baron who absolutely did not leave both his protege belt and cadet scarf at home when he went to 50th year).

Travel safe and make sure to check about the Queen's Secret Mission for Boat Day. We can't talk about it here - there might be enemy spies about!

Seneschal Letter - February 2020

Greetings everyone from your friendly neighborhood seneschal.

A gentle reminder, there are only three weeks left to get your official letter in to me if you want to run for Baron and Baroness of Darkwater. A letter is necessary to be considered. 

 
I have received word from the Kingdom Seneschal that they have no bids for Trimaris Memorial Tournament or Fall Coronation and are currently looking for bids. If anyone would like to put a bid in or any households would like a chance to shine this is a good time to do so. Marshal Letter - February 2020

Greetings Populace,


Did you know there are two practices a week in Darkwater where you can come practice Marshal Arts with your friends? If not then you should look us up and come out and learn! Come join us Wednesdays at Redbug Lake Park from 7-9 in front of the volleyball courts, or Sundays at Lake Fairview Park from Noon to 3 by the Pavilion. Also join the Facebook group Darkwater Fighters for more information.

My tenure as Marshal of Darkwater is set to expire at the end of this month. I have offered to extend my term by 6 months or till we can find a suitable candidate.

The duties required by this office are:
1: being a heavy marshal
2: managing the deputies of all other marshal activities
3: marshaling at Darkwater practices
4: bringing loaner equipment to practices
5: maintaining loaner equipment
6: attending officer meetings
7: where capable marshaling Darkwater events.
8: PAPERWORK:  Injury reports, Waivers, Authorizations, Quietly status

4. Revel - we were going to do quarterly revelry events and have not had one for a bit

2. The American Legion should be a good place to start with places.
3. We still have food from the Trident lunch in Hextilda’s freezer that we can use.
1. We should do the next one at the park so we can use the food and then do the 2nd revel at the AL
2. Hextilda suggested we use the food that was leftover from Trident at Clans for a midnight meat. Baron James Highgate was on board with this.

10. Announcements From the Populous
1. Lady Thyri Bersi - Concern - Running of events at Kiwanis - is it on an autocrats list of to-dos to clean the royal cabins?
1. We had people come in and clean that volunteered when we arrived.
2. HL Hextilda Marshall - The cabin was given last minute by the camp so we did not have time to clean or prep.
3. Baron Gavin Armstrang - That is a cabin that was not walked through at the beginning of site check-in and that is probably why the cabin was not ready. An autocrat does usually check the cabins ahead of time.
4. Baroness Ilene Johnnestoune - Might be best to use the cabin nearest to reservations instead of this cabin in the future.
2. Feast Hall - High Table with tablecloths/etc.

2. This should have a list that says “Here are the things we need to have at events” to prevent this from happening in the future.

7. Baron James Highgate - Having someone with the job of taking care of high table items, would be preferable to the high table people. This also alleviates high table issues.

Herald Letter - February 2020

Greetings unto the Populace of the Barony,

As I assume the role of Baronial Herald, I would like to strive to keep our populace informed of Accolades, Words of Acclaim, and the status of our members Armorial and Name submissions, as well as offer some information about heraldry.

Darkwater has 5 awards that may be given by the Baron and Baroness. Below is a brief description of those awards:

• Order of the League of the Hidden Treasure (OLHT) - This is the non-armigerous award for service to the barony.
• Order of the Acorn's Glade (OAG) - This is the non-armigerous award for arts & sciences within the barony.
• Order of the Darkwater Defender (ODD) - This is the non-armigerous award for excellence in the martial arts within the barony.
• Order of the Trident's Keype (OTK) - This is the armigerous award for service to the barony, and may also bestow an award of arms.
• Order of the Starfish (OOTS) - This honorific is for service in any field of endeavor by a youth.
