Exchequer Letter - November 2019

Greetings to the Barony of Darkwater on this fine fall day in October, 2019,
From Gravin Eva van Oudeachterkol, OR, CSC, OM, CBT, OAP, OOS, OLHT, ODD, OAG
Exchequer, Barony of Darkwater

Here in the counting house it has been a busy month. Every month brings something to record, whether it is supporting an event that is about to happen or documenting an event just passed. Each event involves this office from the planning through execution to the final reports. Our local office works with the Kingdom e-pay deputy to ensure all the credit card payments , both before -hand and at the door, are processed, and the money is received by the Barony. Village Fair was held in September, so October has been dedicated to collecting and verifying receipts, processing refunds, and compiling the post event report. This takes a few weeks in order to collect the information from so many sources.

Let me introduce the three current Deputy Exchequers. Illona of Darkwater has been learning about the office for most of a year. She has recently agreed to become the Drop Dead Deputy, huzzah! Hanzo Makoto, also the Event Steward for Trident 2020, has been introduced to this office within the last six months. Both of these folks have just helped finish the Third Quarter report to the Kingdom-good job! The third deputy is Lady Angeline, who has been supporting the office in many ways for three years.

The Quartermaster is also a deputy of this office. Many thanks to Baron Bilgisayer for his devotion to moving around the Baronial equipment for nigh on two years.

Interest in accounting practices and banking, a current membership and being over 18 are most of the requirements for becoming involved in the Exchequer Office. There is training and practice and excellent support for this vital office. Please drop me a line at exchequer@baronyofdarkwater.org if you are interested in learning more.

The office of the exchequer is very detail-oriented since the reports from a barony become part of the report from a kingdom which becomes part of the final report the Society makes to the IRS. From bank accounts to inventories, event registration to site contracts, officer budgets to guild support, there are many interesting aspects to focus on.
