Welcome! I am Lady Thyri Bersi, and my role is to welcome and guide you into the world of the SCA. One of the most daunting aspects of the SCA to newcomers is the clothing or “garb” that we wear during events. For your first steps into the Society, Gold Key is available, which simply means loaner garb and various items to assist you in starting within the SCA. You have come at the perfect time to jump into all the adventure and pageantry. It can seem like a lot, but please know that everyone you meet has been a newcomer at one point .
There are many skills and crafts that can be learned through the SCA. You may be overwhelmed by the variety of things people work on, and especially by the skill of many of the people you meet, but know they often love to share their passion. If you do not know what you might be interested in, take some time just to observe others and to ask questions. Perhaps you have a skill in the modern world or an interest that can be "translated" into the medieval world. Some of the many things studied in the SCA are but not limited to:
